Appearance: Komui is originally from China, and so he has a few typically Chinese features. His hair is completely black and perfectly straight, and he has the skin tone and eyes that fit his heritage. But he’s also tall (1.93 cm) and has sharp, long features. His eyesight isn’t perfect, so he’s always wearing glasses. He does like wearing typically Chinese clothes, it seems—those shirts with a decoration running down from the high neckline, for example; he also seems to feel at home in long robes. He used to wear his hair long, but cut it o shoulder-length. He must use insane amounts of hair product on it, because his usually straight hair now curls up at the ends in an... Eccentric manner. For some reason, he nearly always wears a white beret. He can sometimes be seen in darker colours, but most of the time he prefers to wear white.

But somehow, the most noticeable feature of his eccentric appearance is Komui’s smile. Of course, as all crazy scientists should, he has a cackle. An evil grin that strikes fear into the hearts of all of his colleagues, or really, everyone in the vicinity. But if you see him really smile you can’t help but admire him, and maybe pity him a little. It’s a soft, wistful smile, for which he often averts his eyes. He looks the other way, like he’s somewhere else entirely. Depending on the situation at hand, this smile looks like he’s willing to take the entire world on his shoulders, like he knows everything one could possibly know, like what feelings inside of him could very well explode at any time.

Personality: Komui is an enigma. He’s many things at the same time, and no part of him is less honest than the other.

He’s the loyal brother, who would do anything to protect his little sister, Lenalee. Sometimes his methods are questionable, but he always does what he does because of his love for her. He’s extremely close to her, in a nearly scary manner. Everyone accepts that if you mess with Lenalee, you mess with Komui… and he’ll get revenge. He is woken up from deep sleep by the mere phrase ‘Lenalee is getting married’. He’s taken the role of father and mother along with the role of brother. So to some, it seems like an unhealthy obsession, a scary form of overprotection… but everything he does is for her. He believes in the cause, sure, but all he wants is a better environment for Lenalee.

He’s the crazy scientist, who doesn’t know where to stop when it comes to his creations. He loves his successes, is devoted to them, believes they are absolutely, purely right. Yes, even if they turn into killer robots and destroy his department. It’s a wonderful machine! He’s fascinated by what science can do, and isn’t afraid to use scary methods to find out. He’s a brave man, our Komui is.

He’s the careless romantic, the forgetful guy, who does stuff like design whole bedrooms with his face on it just for his sister, who never reads his mail, who’ll forget about something vitally important at one time, then remember it just in time. He’ll let someone else do all the hard work while he fawns over his sister. He doesn’t care about coming off as selfish as long as it gets him to laze off.

He’s the leader, fearless and cruel. He obeys the really important rules, makes no exceptions, because he knows the consequences like no other. People may hate him momentarily for his decisions, but he never makes one that isn’t completely justified. His choices are right, because he doesn’t let himself get carried away by emotions when it really matters. At such moments, he tells himself that all that matters is victory—but this doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care.

He’s the philosopher, the kind-hearted intellectual who always knows the answer to anything. The philanthropist, the good-natured father-figure to anyone who needs one at that moment. He’s that person you know who you admire and envy for their knowledge and their never-ending gentleness, before remembering that they suffered to gain that knowledge. When he’s not being an obsessive, crazy, deranged, maybe even tough leader, he’s prone to soft, wistful smiles. Pained smiles that tell so much about why he is the way he is—because to keep a hold on reality, to keep going, he has to be outrageous. He has to be someone to trust in, someone to believe in when things look unbearably bleak.

And it’s not that that’s not true. As said, all these parts are truly him. But when he smiles his soft smile, you only have to take one look at him to know that he knows what he’s doing, and that he cares. He’s in for the ride, one hundred percent.

Skills and Abilities: Komui is, most of all, an intellectual. And a scientist. So mostly, he can figure out a solution to practically any situation, preferably by blowing shit up. He is also very very good at cuddling his sister to half-death!

Really, when you think of it like that, he’s pretty useless! He can’t even fight properly :(
Personal Belongings: A photograph of his sister, Lenalee; his drill, which he loves almost as much as his sister since IT’S AWESOME AND IT DRILLS YOU BACK TO GOOD HEALTH; his coffee mug, which has a rather cheeky bunny on it! Duelist Weapon: Rose Bride? :3 Though if he had to fight, his weapon would be a pretty basic sword, double-edged with a simple handle.
School Uniform: Komui wears a mostly white uniform. His pants are white, and so is his tipped beret. His long coat is also white, with a few black decorations on the chest pocket. It looks a lot like a lab coat, which he also wears a lot, but it’s heavier and prettier than that. He wears a black shirt underneath all that.
History: Komui was in his early twenties when his parents were murdered by akuma: the bodies of the dead turned into horrible monsters that only want to kill. Akuma don’t do this on their own volition: they’re ordered to by the Millenium Earl, a creature that’s at the head of all akuma. What the earl wants is Innocence, god matter that was washed up after the great flood. In the end, what he wants is the Great Heart, the most powerful Innocence, because it has the power to destroy all the other Innocences.

Why does he want that? Well, because a secret organisation, called the Black Order, wants to collect them all. With all 109 pieces of Innocence, the Black Order will be able to finally destroy the Earl and his raid of terror over the Earth. The Black Order has two types of people who do that for them: Exorcists and non-exorcists. Exorcists are people who have somehow managed to turn a piece of Innocence into a weapon that can defeat akuma. Non-exorcists are the people behind them, finders of innocence, travel companions, researches…

Well, anyway, Komui took care of his little sister, Lenalee, after their parents were killed. But after some time, the Black Order kidnapped her because they wanted to try and forcibly make her an accomodator for a piece of Innocence. This wasn’t possible without lots of pain on her part, so of course that was hardly acceptable.

So Komui worked hard to get into the Order, and after a few long years he managed to become the head of the science department, a prestigious position in the Order. In that position, he was finally able to get Lenalee away from all the experimenting, and he could take care of her again.

And from that moment on, he did. Perhaps a little too enthusiastically, he protected her, raised her the rest of the way, doted on her. He kept on being the head of the science department, in his own… special way (special meaning ‘slacking off whenever he’s not going to be killed for doing that’). Eventually he had to send Lenalee out on missions, as well, since she hád become an Exorcist, but when it comes to this Komui is a professional. He takes tough decisions with their goal in mind, sometimes sounding cruel, but always doing the best for their cause.

He had his ups and downs, of course, such as during Lenalee’s fight, one of which nearly got her killed. And with a devastating number of Black Order members dying, he wasn’t making himself any more loved with the troops, nor was it easy on him to keep on sending them out. But he does. Always. Because if they succeed, the world will be a better place.
